Coeur d’Alene, Idaho: A city steeped in history, Coeur d’Alene boasts a rich tapestry of historical landmarks. From the oldest standing building in the state to beautifully restored hotels, visitors can delve into the vibrant past of this charming area. Located just 30 miles east of downtown Spokane, Washington, and 259 miles east of Seattle, Coeur d’Alene is nestled along the northern shore of the magnificent Lake Coeur d’Alene—a natural dam-controlled lake covering nearly 50 square miles (about twice the area of Cleveland, Ohio). Golf enthusiasts will appreciate the Coeur d’Alene Resort’s floating green on the 14th hole—a remarkable 15,000-square-foot expanse that weighs nearly five million pounds. The green can be adjusted using underwater cables, altering the distance from the tee to the hole, which ranges from 75 to 175 yards or more.
For family fun, a quick 15-minute drive north leads to Silverwood, the Northwest’s largest theme park. With over 50 rides and attractions, including three roller coasters, Thunder Canyon River raft ride, Boulder Beach Water Park, and a scenic steam locomotive, Silverwood promises excitement for all ages.
Winter enthusiasts will find three ski resorts near Coeur d’Alene. Silver Mountain in Kellogg boasts the world’s longest single-staged gondola, while Lookout Pass in Mullan and Schweitzer Basin north of Sandpoint offer thrilling runs across 2,500 acres. Stella, with its six-passenger high-speed chairlift, completes the trio.
